  • Hinamatsuri

Hinamatsuri (Doll’s Festival/Girl's Day) is an occasion to pray for girls’ growth and happiness. Hinamatsuri is celebrated each year on March 3. Most families with girls display dolls for the Doll’s Festival called Hina-ningyo.  Thank you to our parent volunteers and Japanese teachers, who set up the beautiful display.

  • Lead Testing 2023

In accordance with State law, all schools must test for lead in water every three years. In 2023, the Department of Education (DOE) will begin a new testing cycle, which will conclude in December 2025. In the first phase of this testing cycle, a third of buildings will be tested.

Our school building has been selected to be a part of the 2023 cohort. Attached, please find a letter that provides additional details surrounding the DOE’s lead testing protocols and procedures.  Once the building has been tested and the lab results received, schools will receive a notification of the results. In any building where test results show even one water outlet above the action level, the DOE will implement its standard response protocol.

Families and staff should rest assured that New York City drinking water is safe and of the highest quality in the world. New York City’s water meets or exceeds all Federal and State standards. In addition, the DOE works with other City agencies to ensure there is safe drinking water in schools. The safety and well-being of students and staff is our highest priority.

Please visit https://www.schools.nyc.gov/school-life/space-and-facilities/space-and-facilities-reports/water-safety to learn more about the robust protocol we use to ensure the safety of drinking water in each and every school.

For your kind consideration, a-un Brooklyn, https://www.aunbrooklyn.com/, a Japanese restaurant located in the vicinity of our school located on Knickerbocker Avenue off of Flushing Avenue invites us to a special day of cuisine.  a-un Brooklyn has supported our school community in the past by introducing the Japanese culinary arts to many of our students last school year.  a-un Brooklyn even hosted a Superintendent's meeting with Principals last school year at our school as well.  These events were free of charge to our students and school.

We are honored to have their support and in turn ask that you consider supporting this small business should you be interested.  The flyer is attached with pertinent information including menu and costs.
