Meet Our Principal
Principal Sandra Noyola
Principal Sandra Noyola has a vision. She wants you and your child to be a part of it. She believes in the power of community just as she believes that “Schools should also be supporting the emotional, social and intellectual growth of children.” This, her background as a literacy coach, her previous work as a teacher and Vice Principal is the foundation from which she makes her decisions.
With this in mind, she actively pursues third party enrichment programs to supplement any budgetary shortfalls. Creative solutions are her signature. In the few years that she has been at PS147, she has successfully managed or cultivated school partnerships with:
-
Center for Arts Education and Chez Bushwick – to enrich the arts
-
Music and the Brain and Little Kids Rock – to expose children to music
-
NY Sun Works, City at Work and Grow to Learn NYC – to foster ecological awareness
-
Kids Orbit and Streb – to encourage physical activity
-
Columbia University Reading and Writing Project – to innovate teacher performance
Her belief in community is highlighted by the opportunities she strives to provide to her teachers as well as the parents of her students.
It was Principal Noyola who guided the school toward their focus on environmental engineering and her desire to meet the needs of that focus more each year.
She believes in the slow steady march for progress. If it can’t be brought to fruition today she is willing to put forth the work to see it happen later. The school’s new hydroponics lab developed in partnership with NY Sun Works is a perfect example of her commitment to long term goals. Each year since its inception it has grown and is well on its way to becoming part of the school wide curriculum. Another example is her willingness to develop the boro’s first Japanese Dual Language program. Being afraid of new things isn’t in Principal Noyola’s playbook. She doesn’t want her students to be afraid either. Leading by example is her plan.
It’s clear, she is excited to work on behalf of her students and she looks forward to providing new and innovative opportunities to her school community. Her students know this. Her teachers know this and the parents of her students know this too.
